Anne Wind
Our wonderful head coach, Anne Wind, brings nearly a decade of coaching experience to Woodside. She has been coaching with the Birmingham Blue Dolphins age group swim team (based out of the Birmingham YMCA) for nine years. At "BBD", she spends a lot of her hours on deck with the 11-12 age group, but also assists with the 10 & unders and the senior swimmers.
Anne has assisted down at the YMCA Short Course National meet in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida since the spring of 2005. In addition to her experience as an age group coach, Anne assisted Karl Hodgson at Forest Hills Swim Club for a total of 5 summers, and also assisted Kevin Fogarty with Orchard Lake Country Club's swim team in the summer of 2010.
Anne swam and set records for Seaholm High School from 1995-1998. She also swam with the Oakland Live Y’ers from 1997-2000. Anne went on to Indiana University’s swimming program where she was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American, a two-time Academic All-American and the co-captain of a Big Ten Championship team in 2003. Anne participated in the Olympic Trials held at IUPUI's natatorium in the summer of 2000.
Currently, she works as an 8th grade math teacher at Derby Middle School. In addition to her degree from Indiana, Anne has a Master’s in Athletic Administration from Wayne State University.
The kids just love her and we are lucky to have her back again!
Anne is bringing back two of our beloved assistant coaches this year, Payton Violassi and Bert Kamenec.
Payton Violassi
Payton Violassi grew up swimming for Woodside. Many of you will remember Payton as the oldest Violassi swimming for Woodside. He starting swimming for here at the age of 7 and went on to become a 3-time State Qualifier at Andover High School. Payton also was Captain of the Andover Swim Team his senior year. He also swam for Great Lakes Aquatics. After high school, Payton swam at Olivet College for a year and plans on returning to swim for them this fall. His coaching experience includes coaching middle school swimming and assisting at swim clinics at Olivet. Payton also happens to be an Eagle Scout and an avid Ultimate Frisbee player. Payton loves coaching and is excited to be back this season. He is also known to draw a mean lightning bolt on many an arm at swim meets.
